FAQs
How much are tickets? Ages 12+: $12.00 Ages 6-11: $8.00 Ages 5 & under: FREE Buy Tickets!
What does the ticket purchase include? Includes All You Can Eat BBQ, Coleslaw, BBQ Potatoes, Rolls, and Drinks! The drinks provided will be sweet tea, lemonade, and water. There will be additional drink options such as soda for sale in our snack shop. We will have a bake sale for camper scholarships at $2.00 an item!
Are dogs allowed? No, dogs are not allowed at Camp Cale unless they are leashed/harnessed service dogs.
Will there be activities for kids? Yes, our commons area (GaGa ball, tetherball, slide, & more) will be open! This year we will have a free Kids Zone with inflatables!
How do I vote for People’s Choice BBQ? Follow the signs and walk around to all the Backyard BBQ tents. Try all the bbq you want then place your votes ($1=1 vote) in the designated jar at the tent of your favorite bbq! No maximum on votes! All proceeds from votes go to Capital Campaign. The team with the most votes at the end of the voting (Voting closes at 1:00pm) will win People’s Choice!
How do I get food if I can’t walk to the tents? We will have a line set up underneath the pavilion for sides and bbq for those who can not walk to the bbq tents.
Can I get BBQ to go? We will not be doing to go plates this year, but we will have BBQ for sale by the pound at the gate and in Old Joe’s Snack Shop. Extra sides (16oz) may also be available for purchase in the snack shop.
How does this event work? There will be food lines set up underneath the pavilion by the river. Once you are in line, you can choose if you would like to eat the Sanctioned Competition BBQ that is on the serving line or go around to tents to receive sample cups of people’s choice BBQ and vote on your favorite! If you choose to do the people’s choice BBQ, you will receive all of your sides in the serving line (potatoes, coleslaw, and roll) and then you can go to each tent to receive a portion cup sample of their team’s BBQ! You can always return to the line to receive Whole Hog Sanctioned BBQ or return to a tent if you liked one People’s Choice BBQ better than another. To go plates will not be provided/allowed but we will sell additional BBQ in the snack shop or the entry gate by the pound.
What’s the difference between Whole Hog BBQ Teams and Backyard BBQ Teams? Our Whole Hog BBQ teams are competing in a sanctioned event, the Whole Hog Barbecue Series by the NC Pork Council. Winners may be eligible to compete in the Whole Hog Barbecue Championship Cook-off. Backyard BBQ Teams compete for the People’s Choice Award, where the public votes on their BBQ. Backyard BBQ Teams will also be judged (separate from the Whole Hog Competition) for the Best BBQ. Backyard BBQ teams will also each have their own sauce/preparation method and the Sanctioned Whole Hog teams will have their BBQ sent to the kitchen to all be prepared with the same sauce.
